Kai Havertz started for Germany as they defeated Ivory Coast 2-1 in the last minute to make it two wins from two at the World Cup.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fresh from scoring twice in their opening game against Curacao, Kai led the line once more, but it was the African nation that made the better start as Franck Kessie put the Ivorians in front on 30 minutes.<\/p>\n

In an end-to-end game, the 2014 winners then found their equaliser when substitute Deniz Undav volleyed home Nadiem Amiri’s inch-perfect cross.<\/p>\n

Former Gunner Nicholas Pepe was introduced by the Ivorians and he almost helped win the match after good work down the wing to pick out Simon Adingra, but the winger couldn’t get a shot away from close range.<\/p>\n

In the end, it was the Germans who prevailed as Undav smashed home with two minutes to spare as Havertz and his nation booked their spot in the round of 32.<\/p>\n

HINCAPIE STUNNED BY CURACAO<\/h2>\n

Elsewhere in Group E, Piero Hincapie played the full 90 minutes as Ecuador were held to a 0-0 draw against World Cup debutants Curacao.<\/p>\n

After suffering late heartbreak against Ivory Coast, Hincapie’s nation looked to pick up a big three points but could not find a way through.<\/p>\n

The South American outfit had 15 shots on target in Kansas but ultimately had to settle for a point.<\/p>\n

It means that Piero and Ecuador must win their final group game against Kai’s Germany to have a chance of making it through to the round of 32.<\/p>\n

SWEDEN SUFFER DUTCH HUMBLING<\/h2>\n

After scoring in Sweden’s opening fixture, it wasn’t to be for Viktor Gyokeres this time around as his nation suffered a 5-1 loss against the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

Starting up top alongside Alexander Isak, Viktor played the full 90 minutes in Houston as the Dutch proved too strong for the Swedes.<\/p>\n

Brian Brobbey and Cody Gakpo both fired in braces, with Crysencio Summerville adding a fifth late on. Anthony Elanga netted for Sweden.<\/p>\n

The result puts Sweden in third place following Japan’s 4-0 win over Tunisia. It means Viktor’s nation will need to beat Japan in the final game to secure a top-two finish and safe passage into the knockouts.<\/p>\n
